London Midland operates train services through the heart of England from London in the south, to Birmingham in the Midlands and Liverpool in the north west. London Midland began operating on 11 November 2007.
50 million passenger journeys a year are made on our services; we manage 148 stations and operate over 1,300 services a day.
London Midland is owned by Govia, the partnership between the Go-Ahead Group and Keolis.
Govia is a joint venture between the Go-Ahead Group (65%) and Keolis (35%), two substantial and successful transport companies in their own right. Govia is acknowledged as the expert in delivering turn-around programmes for complex rail organisations. Through Keolis, which is part owned by SNCF, we have access to a world leading railway company. Govia is the busiest rail operation in the UK, responsible for nearly 30 per cent of all UK passenger rail journeys through its three rail franchises: Southern (which includes the Gatwick Express), Southeastern and London Midland. Southeastern operates the UK's only high speed domestic rail service between Kent and London, significantly reducing journey times.
Go-Ahead is a leading UK public transport operator, providing high quality services in the bus and rail sectors. Employing around 23,500 people across the country, over one billion passenger journeys are undertaken on our services each year. We are committed to operating our companies in a safe, socially and environmentally responsible way and are proud to have been reaccredited with Carbon Trust Standard after taking action on climate change. In addition to the travelling public, our customers include the Department for Transport, Transport for London (TfL) and local authorities.
Keolis is a leading public transport operator in Europe and across the world. The group develops tailor-made mobility solutions to suit the needs of local authorities and which match the changing travel patterns of today's passengers. Keolis has nearly 31,000 staff in France and 16,500 people working in their operations throughout the world. Keolis' majority shareholder is the French national rail operator SNCF, operator of TGV and majority owner of Eurostar. SNCF operates in 120 countries and has access to 240,000 people with expertise across all aspects of transport though its high speed TGV services, infrastructure, freight and stations businesses.
