After a series of discussions with David Gauke MP and residents we have decided to temporarily suspend plans to increase the number of spaces at Berkhamsted car park.
We have taken this decision to allow further consultation to take place between ourselves, Mr Gauke and local authorities regarding the provision of parking at the station and in surrounding areas.
We recognise that the provision of parking in and around the station is a complex issue affecting residents and businesses in the town as well as rail passengers.
Our plan to increase the car park at Berkhamsted is based on long-term business projections which indicate further growth on the West Coast Mainline.
It is fair to say that we have also received support for this increased provision.
However, we accept that use of Berkhamsted car park has fallen off slightly in recent months and we will monitor occupancy rates closely while continuing to work with Mr Gauke and the local authorities to shape our future plans.
