London Midland thanks volunteers for helping Leighton Buzzard station to bloom

Date: 08 Nov 2010

London Midland has thanked a group of volunteers for helping to brighten up Leighton Buzzard station with a free first-class day out.

Beautiful flowering tubs were installed on platform one and inside the concourse in June by Leighton Buzzard Garden Centre thanks to London Midland's financial support and encouragement and support from Leighton-Linslade Town Council's Anglia in Bloom Campaign.

Anna Barrett, Retail Travel Adviser for London Midland and the other station staff in the ticket office supported the volunteers, helping with the watering when necessary, and providing safety briefings.

Anna has also organised children's painting competitions which bring a lot of pleasure to commuters as well as getting young people to take an interest in the station and instructing them on safety on railway stations.

Alex Hynes, London Midland commercial director, said: “We're extremely grateful to all the volunteers who have worked extremely hard at Leighton Buzzard. The displays are magnificent and it's great to see enthusiasm and civic pride has put a smile on thousands of passengers and visitors. We hope our volunteers enjoy a first class day out with London Midland!”

Victoria Harvey of South Bedfordshire Friends of the Earth/ Chair of the Station Travel Plan said: “It is wonderful what you can achieve when there is such close working between the community, London Midland, Leighton-Linslade Town Council and Central Bedfordshire. The flowers look lovely thanks to the hard work of so many volunteers and there is also a space for wildlife and butterflies at the far end of platform one.”
