Passengers rattled by snake

Date: 20 Jul 2011

On Saturday afternoon (16 July), London Midland staff at Gravelly Hill station had to deal with a very slippery customer.

A four foot long black snake was spotted on a ramp next to the Birmingham bound platform.

The ramp was cordoned off while staff kept an eye on the snake from a safe distance.

When caught the snake was found to be a grass snake and was taken away to be re-homed.

Nicola Moss, Head of Franchise Management at London Midland, said:

“We have a wealth of wildlife around our stations, but we don't want to see any snakes on a train. We believe it was on its way to Adderley Park, but this snake wasn't charming passengers.”
