Changes to Snow Hill services caused by freight derailment

Date: 25 Mar 2008

Wednesday services between Birmingham Snow Hill - Leamington Spa / Stratford upon Avon

A partially derailed freight train in the Birmingham Moor Street area is affecting London Midland services today.

Four carriages of the train were derailed yesterday morning and train services are restricted travelling in and out of Birmingham Snow Hill Station as a result, with only a limited service in operation.

London Midland is working in conjunction with Network Rail to deal with the derailment and return services for our passengers to normal as soon as possible.

The lines have been closed completely since 19.00 yesterday (Tuesday 25 March) and will remain closed for the rest of today (Wednesday 26 March) to enable Network Rail to remove the derailed carriages.

This means that:

  • All services between Leamington Spa and Birmingham will terminate at Acocks Green. Local bus services will then enable passengers to continue their journeys to/from Birmingham city centre. London Midland advises passengers to disembark at Olton train station to catch local bus services (TWM services no.6 and no.37 Solihull to Birmingham city centre) because these are a shorter walk.
  • All services between Stratford upon Avon and Birmingham will terminate at Spring Road. London Midland advises passengers to disembark at Hall Green where they can catch the Travel West Midlands no.6 service to/from Birmingham City Centre.

Services are expected to return to normal from Thursday, 27 March 2008.

Steve Banaghan, Managing Director of London Midland, said: "London Midland apologises for the inconvenience caused.  We are working hard to get services back to normal as soon as possible."
