More comfort and convenience at Nuneaton station
Rail passengers using Nuneaton station can now enjoy better waiting room, baby-change and toilet facilities thanks to a newly finished improvement scheme. The £160,000 project, undertaken by train operator London Midland and Warwickshire County Council as part of the Warwickshire Quality Rail Partnership, was completed this week, having started onsite in January.
The work includes adding a secure disabled toilet, baby changing facilities and a children's toilet on platform 1, new toilets and an enlarged and refurbished waiting room on platforms two and three, and a bright new waiting room for platforms four and five.
London Midland Managing Director Stephen Banaghan said: "When we secured our rail franchise last autumn we pledged a range of improvements to our trains and our stations.
"Nuneaton station was a high priority for us, as the quality of waiting room and toilet areas was clearly below the standards we want to achieve across our network. It was an issue that local users had rightly drawn attention to and I am delighted that our customers and all visitors to the town can now enjoy a greatly improved environment."
Councillor Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Environmental Services said: "The County Council is committed to providing rail passengers with a better waiting environment and better facilities. I have no doubt that the improvements will make a real difference for the people who use the station regularly and will encourage more people to use rail. The involvement and support of London Midland has been crucial in delivering the improvements and they would not be possible without their willingness to take on the management and long term maintenance of the new facilities."
On platform 1, the existing toilet space has been completely remodelled to provide disabled toilet facilities, a baby changing area and staff toilets. On platforms two/three new toilet facilities have been provided and the waiting rooms enlarged and refurbished.
On platforms four/five, two existing and dilapidated waiting rooms have been remodelled and refurbished to provide a spacious, comfortable waiting area.
