A new look for London Midland as new uniform is launched

Date: 08 Jul 2008

There's a new look for train operator London Midland this week, with the launch of its new staff uniform.

More than 1,700 London Midland staff are now sporting the new look which has been specially designed and produced for the Birmingham-based train company.

The uniform has been made from high quality fabrics and is designed to be smart and professional, yet also comfortable, practical and easy to wash.  Its style and colours -  black, green and light grey - reflect the London Midland brand which is now in evidence on over half of the company's fleet of trains, as well as at stations, which are all due to be refurbished in the coming months.

Managing Director Stephen Banaghan said: "Our smart new uniform represents the face of London Midland and everything we stand for - professionalism, efficiency and high quality customer service.

"The uniform is an important part of the positive changes we are making at London Midland for our passengers as well as our colleagues.  The new uniform will help our passengers to identify London Midland staff more easily and we have taken time to make sure the new uniform is what our staff need to help them be smart, comfortable and professional at all times."

Midlands based company Incorporatewear designed the new uniform to meet the needs of a range of staff working on the platforms, at stations, on ticket gates as well as on-board London Midland's 1,200 services running everyday.  In total over 60,000 individual uniform items have been produced as part of the London Midland uniform range.

The new London Midland uniform replaces the old uniforms (from the predecessor organisations) that had been in use since the new franchise started last November.  But the old clothing hasn't finished its useful life yet, London Midland is working with Wolverhampton based company Wilcox to recycle and reuse as much as possible.  As a result London Midland staff will be supporting communities across the world by donating their old shirts, jackets, trousers and skirts which will either be reused as whole garments, or recycled to make new fabrics.
