Tyseley Family Day raises £15,000 for Railway Children charity

London Midland presented the Railway Children charity with a cheque for £15,000 today (29 July) after raising the money at their annual Tyseley Family Day. The money will go towards helping homeless children in the UK and across the world.

Around 5,000 employees and their families enjoyed the Family Day at Tyseley Depot on 28th June - an extra special event this year as, not only was it the first since London Midland took over the West Midlands rail franchise, but it also celebrated 100 years of Tyseley Depot.

The fun-filled day included the first ever public viewing of the new Parry People Mover, which is due to go into service between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town from December, and a display of vintage steam, diesel and electric locomotives.

In addition, London Midland hosted two train naming ceremonies, renaming the 47580 ‘County of Essex' and the shunt engine 08616 ‘Tyseley 100'.

Amongst the attractions for children were fairground rides, face painting, colouring competitions and computer games.

Steve Banaghan, Managing Director of London Midland said: "I am delighted that so much money has been raised for such a worthwhile cause. I would like to thank everybody who attended the day and our partners, suppliers and the Birmingham Railway Museum for all their help in making the event a huge success."

Ian Watson, Senior Fundraiser, Railway Children added: "Railway Children were delighted to work with London Midland at their terrific Tyseley Family Day.

"The money raised will help us reach even more vulnerable children in the coming year. I would like to thank the staff at the Tyseley Depot for their hard work in making the event so successful and also thank all of the individuals and companies that made such generous donations."
