Generous cleaner brightens up Birmingham train stations

GENEROUS CLEANER BRIGHTENS UP BIRMINGHAM TRAIN STATIONS

An on-train cleaner has won an award for helping to brighten up two Birmingham railway stations.

Nawab Zada from Saltley dips into his own pocket to buy flowers for both Four Oaks and Sutton Coldfield stations – and calls in on the stations on his days off to look after them.

“Not only that, he’s always helpful and caring to passengers and staff,” said Steve Banaghan, Managing Director of London Midland, who commended Nawab for his ‘outstanding contribution’ at a Gold Awards ceremony for staff.

The Gold Awards – the first held by the company since it took over the London Midland franchise last November - recognised staff contributions from caring for passengers with injuries and helping passengers travelling alone, to keeping the network running smoothly, improving technical performance and helping improve the company’s environmental impact.

Steve Banaghan said: “Nawab is a great example of going the extra mile to make using our stations enjoyable for passengers, not just with his flowers, but his outstandingly helpful, caring attitude.”
