London Midland thanks West Coast travellers with free travel

Date: 05 Mar 2009

London Midland is thanking its West Coast Mainline passengers with three days' free travel.

The 'thankyou' is for passengers with a monthly - or longer - season ticket who travel on London Midland's Express services between Northampton and London Euston on the West Coast Main Line.

The three days free travel will be given as a season ticket extension added when your season ticket is next renewed.

During December, January and February, the new timetable for the West Coast was phased-in, with London Midland operating fewer off-peak services.

London Midland has been operating the full timetable of services to and from London since 16 February and the three day extension is a thank you to those people who travelled during the phasing-in period.

Here are the details of how the season ticket extension applies and how to claim.

What do we mean by free travel?

We mean a three day extension which will be added when monthly - or longer - season tickets are next renewed.

All monthly and longer season tickets that were valid for travel between 16 and 28 February 2009 are eligible for the extension at the time of renewal.

What do we mean by regular passengers?

We mean passengers who hold a monthly season ticket or a season ticket of any length over one month valid for travel on London Midland services between Long Buckby and all stations to/from London Euston including Northampton, Milton Keynes and Watford Junction.

Passengers who travel using an Oyster season ticket should contact London Midland Customer Relations for more details about how the extension applies to your tickets.

What stations/routes are included?

Season tickets to/from the following stations along the West Coast Mail Line are included:

  • Long Buckby
  • Northampton
  • Wolverton
  • Milton Keynes Central
  • Bletchley
  • Leighton Buzzard
  • Cheddington
  • Tring
  • Berkhamsted
  • Hemel Hempstead
  • Apsley
  • Kings Langley
  • Watford Junction
  • Bushey
  • Harrow and Wealdstone
  • and
  • London Euston.

It also includes all stations on the Bedford to Bletchley (Marston Vale) and Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey (Abbey) branch lines. More details of the stations on the routes are on our route map.

How do I claim the extension?

The extension will be added on to season tickets when they are next renewed. Passengers can renew their season ticket at their local station. They do not need to take any action until their current season ticket (ie a season ticket that is valid for travel during 16 and 28 February) is ready for renewal. Then when they renew it, the extra days will be added on.

If their local station is not a London Midland managed station, then the staff there will still be able to give them the extension.

When does the offer expire?

The extension will be applied to the next season ticket renewal, whenever their valid season ticket is due to expire and which is renewed within 28 days of its expiry date.

The three days extension applies once, for the next season ticket renewal only.

What if the season ticket expired before 16 February?

The extension is only available to passengers who have a current season ticket. By current we mean one that was still valid for travel during 16-28 February and which is renewed within 28 days of its expiry date.

What about other routes?

We have specifically chosen the stations between Northampton and London Euston and the branch lines which link to it, because these services were most affected by the phasing-in of the new timetable.

What about passengers with season tickets of less than one month?

We are making the offer to our regular passengers who will have travelled during the last two months and who were most affected by the Commissioning timetable.

Does this affect claims for compensation?

No. All passengers are entitled to claim compensation for every journey which is delayed for 30 minutes or longer.

The three days free extension is an additional offer from London Midland and does not replace or alter any other claims or complaints passengers may wish to make.

Where is there more information?

More information is available at stations or from our contact Customer Relations team
