London Midland has started work on Monday (15th June) to add around 27 spaces and increase safety at Wolverton station car park.
The work will last around six weeks during which time there will inevitably be some disruption for passengers using the car park.
Improvements include reorganising the layout to fit in more vehicles, resurfacing, and upgrading lighting and CCTV, new signs, and new pay and display machines. London Midland has been working closely with Milton Keynes Council to plan these improvements.
Initially, London Midland had hoped to add another ‘deck’ of parking, but detailed survey work on the site revealed this would need around double the amount of underpinning, costing far more than expected. In the current economic climate, the parking deck has been postponed.
In the longer term, the company is also considering expanding the car park to use Network Rail land next to it.
Managing director Steve Banaghan said: “We’re committed to expanding and improving car parking as part of our investment across all our stations, and I’m pleased we are starting work on Wolverton. I apologise for the inevitable disruption while the work is in progress, and look forward to the project being completed very soon.”
