London Midland’s Dorridge Station is an asset to my constituency, says MP

Date: 28 Jul 2009

Meriden MP Caroline Spelman has praised London Midland’s Dorridge Station as an asset to her constituency.

Mrs Spelman visited the station on Monday (July 27) to discuss improvements at Dorridge with London Midland commercial director Alex Hynes.

The station has recently received the national standard for Secure Station accreditation from the Department for Transport.

To receive the accreditation stations have to meet national standards in station, passenger and staff security.

Mrs Spelman said London Midland staff at Dorridge deserved praise for their hard work and courtesy.

“As a female passenger I really appreciate having this excellent local station nearby,” she said.

“The staff are always polite and helpful, the internet café is a great innovation and the services are always in good order. It’s an asset to my constituency.”

Mr Hynes said London Midland wanted to increase cycle storage at Dorridge, and had plans to introduce power-assisted doors to provide better disabled access.

“We’re just about to complete our investment of £190m in a fleet of new trains for longer distance electric services. Next year we will commence introduction of a brand new fleet of British-built diesel trains operating out of Snow Hill.

“We’re continuing to invest millions of pounds in stations and car parks across our network. This is all great news for rail passengers in the West Midlands.”

Mrs Spelman’s constituency also takes in London Midland’s Marston Green and Berkswell stations.

London Midland is working with Centro to improve the bus-rail interchange at Marston Green, and with Network Rail to provide a new station building at Berkswell.
