London Midland announces January fares and low-cost tickets for Christmas

Date: 16 Nov 2009

London Midland today confirmed its new fares for 2010, including 50,000 extra low-cost tickets available over the Christmas period.

The fare changes will come into effect from January 2, 2010 and represent an average increase of 1.2% across all tickets on the London Midland network.

As part of London Midland’s Remedial Plan agreed with the Department for Transport announced last week, 50,000 lower cost tickets will be made available for travel on the network over the Christmas period. Details of this offer will follow shortly.

London Midland will also be providing an extra 400,000 low cost, advance purchase tickets in the next two years.

The new fares will see prices remain unchanged or reduced for 60% of journeys taken on London Midland services, including decreases of just under half a per cent (- 0.4%) on regulated fares (which include tickets for peak time travel and standard class season tickets) and no change to Oyster Pay As You Go prices for journeys between Watford and stations into London Euston (excluding travel on the Underground).

The majority of off peak (unregulated) fares will see average increases of around three per cent. There are also changes to some London Midland dedicated fares valid for journeys on the company’s services on routes including the Trent Valley line between Birmingham to London Euston and Milton Keynes to London Euston.

Many London Midland season ticket holders will be eligible for three days’ extension when they renew their annual season tickets in the coming weeks. London Midland announced this extension earlier this year as a goodwill gesture to passengers for their patience during the revised timetable which operated on the West Coast services between December and February.

Full details of the new fares can be found online at www.londonmidland.com.

Notes to Editors:

1. The three-day extension applies to passengers in possession of monthly or longer season tickets between 16 and 28 February 2009, using services from Long Buckby to London Euston and all stations between.
