Local musicians on track to put Redditch station on the map

Date: 29 Jul 2010

London Midland’s Redditch train station has been chosen by a local up-and-coming music group as the venue for its new video in a bid to put UK urban soul electro on the map.

The local group, called Sumthin’ Special, decided to use the station as the backdrop to their new song ‘Rave’. The single describes the stages of getting ready to go out on the town, which includes the train journey to a club.

The young collective of musicians fronted by vocalist ‘That Man Fox’, followed the storyboard for the video to set-up the ‘recognition shot’. This took place on the station’s platform to show the regular train journey taken by the group from Redditch into Birmingham New Street.

Lead vocalists, Luke Ebanks (AKA That man Fox), 23, from Winyates in Redditch said: “I wanted to make sure we had a venue that reflected the song, and as we usually start our night with the train journey from Redditch, the station was the natural choice.

“We’ve all grown up in the area, so I wanted to make sure the video had a local feel to it. Lots of people in Redditch use the train station, so it’s instantly recognisable, which is exactly what I wanted for the video.”

London Midland customer service manager, Peter Dobbin, said: “It’s not often I’m asked by musicians for a local rail station to star in a music video, but when the premise for the video was explained it was easy to see why they made the request.

“As a local group who are regular users of the station, it wasn’t difficult to make the decision to let them film. We are always willing to help local people when possible, and I wish them every success with the release of their single.”

The single ‘Rave’ will be released under the pseudonym ‘That Man Fox’ this summer. The video was made and directed by local filmmaking outfit Screamadelic.
