We're going on a Bear Hunt

Help raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity

What's it all about?

We're bear-y proud to be principal sponsor of The Big Sleuth, which kicks off on the 10th of July and is the next chapter in Birmingham's biggest public art event. It's going to be a great way to get out and re-explore our gorgeous region and it's all to support Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity.

With the help of creative producers Wild in Art, 100 individually designed sun bear sculptures will on display for 10 weeks. They'll be dotted around our region's parks, streets and open spaces, after which the sculptures will be auctioned, with all proceeds supporting Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity's pioneering work. Go to The Big Sleuth homepage

The Bear that Cares

This was selected as it represents Birmingham Children’s Hospital. With all the proceeds from the trail and auction going to BCH it seemed pertinent to pick the bear which represents this amazing charity. With many employees at London Midland children having benefited from the work BCH does its incredible important to London Midland and the wider local community. The bear is in memory of Arabella who was cared for at BCH during her short 8 week life.

The Honeybear Honeybottle

This bear immediately stood out as eye-catching fun and quirky inspired by bears favourite food – honey. Painted using usual painting techniques the bear appears translucent and is incredibly tactile. Children will love this fun and quirky bear.

Wildlife Detective

This bear reminded London Midland somewhat of a train spotter although he’s actually a wildlife detective on the hunt for insects, mammals birds and flowers. The painting detail on this bear is very intricate – featuring all his gadgets and gismos.

Sun and Moon bear

This design is derived from the fact the sun bear is often mistaken for the moon bear. This design was the picked by the London Midland Managing Director as his favourite design with it's intricate and different design.

Why The Big Sleuth is important us?

We're the biggest rail operator in the region, with our trains bringing over 23,000 people into Birmingham every day. We are passionate about showing these people everything we have to offer. Not to mention, we're committed to the local community – we want to inspire people to get out and enjoy Birmingham's best-kept secrets. And importantly, to get together with friends and family to raise money for our world-class Children's Hospital and help thousands of young people benefit from its pioneering care. Click here to donate

Why the sun bear?

The sun bear is the world's smallest bear species – which makes it the perfect choice to represent the children's hospital. But don't worry, the bears on The Big Sleuth trail are 165cm tall – so you won't have any trouble spotting them! Our sun bears will raise vital money for the Birmingham Hospital Children's Charity when auctioned. All that's left is for you to get involved Click to join in
