The key

the easy season ticket for travel on the Snow Hill lines

What is the key?

The key is a plastic smartcard that holds your ticket data electronically. The key is a quick, convenient and secure way to buy train tickets, and improves your experience on the Birmingham Snow Hill line.

Your season ticket is stored electronically on your smartcard, after being bought online. This makes your electronic ticket less liable to damage and easier for us to replace if your smartcard is lost or stolen.

the key benefits

  • free smartcard once you’ve registered
  • save money on weekly and annual point to point season tickets
  • buy online when and where you want to
  • load tickets onto your key at stations in a one-touch transaction, without having to queue
  • added security, tickets can be quickly cancelled if lost or stolen
  • improved reliability at tickets gates with no need to have your ticket replaced every couple of months

Pick up your Smartcard 'the key' now

If you live and travel on the Snow Hill Line and normally buy a point to point season ticket (i.e. a Kidderminster to Birmingham Snow Hill weekly, monthly or annual season ticket) apply for your Smartcard 'the key' now.

Where can I use the key?

The season tickets you buy for your Smartcard will be valid for point to point journeys (for example a monthly season ticket from Kidderminster to Birmingham Snow Hill only) between 2 of the 42 stations based along the following Snow Hill routes:

  • Worcester Foregate Street / Shrub Hill to Birmingham Snow Hill / Moor Street
  • Dorridge to Birmingham Snow Hill / Moor Street
  • Stratford-upon-Avon to Birmingham Snow Hill / Moor Street

We also allow travel (in line with your ticket validity) on the following alternate routes and participating train operators:

  • Worcester Foregate Street to Shrub Hill (on First Great Western)
  • Worcester Foregate Street / Shrub Hill to Birmingham New Street
  • Droitwich Spa to Birmingham New Street
  • Smethwick Galton Bridge to Birmingham New Street (on Arriva Trains Wales)
  • Kidderminster to Dorridge (on Chiltern Railways)

Please note: if you do not live and/or travel on the Snow Hill Line; between Worcester and Dorridge/Stratford-upon-Avon your application may not be successful.
