All 26 of our class 323 trains, which largley operate on the Lichfield to Redditch route as well as others in the West Midlands, are off to Manchester to be re-tractioned.
Re-tractioning (much like changing or upgrading an engine on a car) will improve their performance and reliability and will take one week per train. This leaves us with one train short a week until around December.
The departures that have been chosen to run with fewer carriages will inconvenience the smallest number of people overall based on our own passenger counts.
The busiest departures affected will be:
- 0750 Lichfield to Longbridge (0830 arrival at New Street)
- 1716 Four Oaks to Redditch (1743 departure from New Street)
However there may be other services throughout the day with fewer carriages too. You may find it more comfortable to wait for the next train, which in most cases is around 10 minutes behind. You can find out which services have fewer carriages than normal on our live running information pages.
